Huntingtower Castle sits two miles from Perth, and the Murrays kept it for almost two hundred years. The castle's previous owners, the Ruthven family, were destroyed in 1600 after a plot against the king. Their name was erased, their estates redistributed, and Huntingtower came to the Murrays.
The seventeenth and eighteenth centuries were the height of Murray power in Scotland. The family accumulated the earldom of Tullibardine and the dukedom of Atholl and became one of Scotland's great noble houses. Huntingtower was part of the foundation under all of it.
Photographer Aly Wight shot the castle at the end of the day, warm light on the stone walls and sheep grazing in the field in front. A dry stone wall runs across the foreground, overgrown with late vegetation. It looks like a place that has been lived alongside for a very long time.
