Auchindoun Castle is situated near Dufftown, Banffshire, in the northeast of Scotland. The castle, which is now in ruins, dates back to the 15th century and was once the seat of the powerful Clan Gordon.

The castle was constructed in the mid-15th century by Clan Cochrane, but it was later acquired by Clan Gordon in the 16th century. It was then used as a stronghold and residence by the clan, who were one of the most prominent and influential families in Scotland at the time. Auchindoun Castle played an important role in the clan's history, serving as a center of power for the Gordons for many years.

The castle's strategic location and strong fortifications made it an important stronghold during the turbulent times of the Scottish Reformation and the Jacobite rebellions. The castle was seized by the Jacobite forces in 1715 and was used as a base of operations during the conflict. However, after the failure of the rebellion, Auchindoun Castle was abandoned and fell into ruin.
