What is the Clan Cameron Connection to Loch Eil?

Loch Eil, located in the West Highlands, is a serene expanse of water, stretching 15 kilometers in length. Its crystal-clear waters and the surrounding hills and mountains create a breathtaking landscape. Loch Eil holds a special significance for Clan Cameron, one of the prominent Highland clans.

For generations, the Camerons held lands around this loch, including Fassfern, which lies on its northern shores. Fassfern was home to the Lairds of Lochiel, leaders of Clan Cameron, for centuries. Notably, Donald Cameron of Lochiel, the 19th Chief of Clan Cameron, resided at Fassfern when he played a significant role in supporting Bonnie Prince Charlie during the Jacobite uprising of 1745.

Donald Cameron, also known as the Gentle Lochiel, was one of the first to join the Prince's cause, showing the steadfast loyalty of the Camerons to the Jacobite cause. The shores of Loch Eil saw many Camerons rally in support.

If you are considering a landscape photography print of Scotland that celebrates your connection to Clan Cameron, this print of Loch Eil provides a view of the tranquil waters, surrounded by the striking Highlands. Loch Eil is an important symbol and central to the story of Clan Cameron.

Where is Loch Eil?
