Photographer Aly Wight took this photograph at Glenfinnan, at the head of Loch Shiel, one of the most significant sites in Jacobite and Cameron history. In August 1745, Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard here, calling the Highland clans to join his attempt to reclaim the British throne for the exiled Stuart dynasty. It was Donald Cameron of Lochiel, known as "the gentle Lochiel," who stepped forward first. Without him the rebellion might never have happened. The rising ended in defeat at Culloden, and Lochiel died in exile in France in 1748.
If you carry the Cameron name, Glenfinnan is where one chief's decision changed the course of Highland history. That kind of story is worth knowing.
