What is the Clan Macnaghten Connection to Dundarave Castle?

Dundarave Castle, standing on a small promontory on the northern shores of Loch Fyne, near Inveraray, Argyll, Scotland, is the historic seat of Clan Macnaghten. The present castle was built after their previous castle was destroyed.

Clan Macnaghten claims descent from the early Pictish rulers of the Mormaer of Moray. The name Dundarave has been associated with the clan since 1473, and it has been suggested that the name derives from Dun-an-Rudha, meaning 'The Knoll on the Promontory', or Dun-da-Ramh, 'The Castle of Two Oars'.

The Macnaghtens played a significant role in Scottish history, including the Wars of Scottish Independence, where they initially opposed Robert the Bruce but later joined him.

The Macnaghtens' history is filled with tales of leadership, loyalty, and commitment to their heritage. The castle's architecture and scenic location by Loch Fyne make it a captivating subject for a landscape photography print, reflecting the clan's prominence and deep connection to the land and local community.

If you're considering a landscape photograph of Scotland as a way to visualise your ancestral connection to Clan Macnaghten or as a gift with personal meaning, this print of Dundarave Castle provides a beautiful immersive scene that transports you to the past.
