What is the Clan Malcolm Connection to Duntrune Castle?

Duntrune Castle, located on the north side of Loch Crinan and across from the village of Crinan in Argyll, Scotland, holds a rich history that intertwines with Clan Malcolm, also known as Clan MacCallum. Thought to be the oldest continuously occupied castle on mainland Scotland, it was originally built by the MacDougall clan in the 13th century.

The castle was eventually taken by the Clan Campbell and was even besieged by the rival MacDonalds under Alasdair Mac Colla in the 17th century. In 1792, the Campbells sold Duntrune to the Malcolms of Poltalloch, marking a significant chapter in the history of Clan Malcolm. The castle remains in the ownership of the Malcolm family to this day.

If you're considering a landscape photograph of Scotland as a way to visualise your ancestral connection to Clan Malcolm or as a gift with personal meaning, this print of Duntrune Castle provides a beautiful immersive scene that transports you to the past.
