MacLeod’s Maidens are three dramatic sea stacks rising from the waters off the west coast of Skye near Idrigill Point, at the outer edge of Loch Bracadale, in waters that formed the clan’s coastal territory for centuries. Tradition holds they are named after a MacLeod chief’s wife and daughters, who were lost in a shipwreck near this headland. Rather than let that grief pass unmarked, the chief gave their memory to the landscape itself, so that every generation who looked out from these shores would find them there, written in stone above the waves.
If you carry the MacLeod name, this coastline belongs to your clan’s story. Photographer Aly Wight captured MacLeod’s Maidens for the Clanscape collection.
