What is the Clan MacGregor Connection to Glenstrae?

Glenstrae, once a stronghold of Clan MacGregor, symbolises the clan's turbulent history. The MacGregors originally held lands in Glenstrae, Glen Orchy, and Glenlochy. However, the barony of Loch Awe, which included much of the MacGregor lands, was granted to the Campbells by Robert the Bruce. Harried by the Campbells, the MacGregors were forced to retire deeper into their remaining lands, including Glenstrae, where they continued to resist their enemies.

Known for their fierce independence, the MacGregors faced persecution and were even outlawed by the Scottish crown. They became known as the "Children of the Mist," a name reflecting their resilience and the misty landscapes they sometimes inhabited. The clan's most famous member, Rob Roy MacGregor, symbolised defiance and courage, and his legacy continues to inspire.

This landscape photography print of Glenstrae tells the story of Clan MacGregor's struggles, loyalty, and enduring presence. On the day of the photograph, a mist was moving through the glen, a serendipitous moment that echoes the clan's nickname and adds to the scene's dramatic effect.

If you're considering a landscape photograph of Scotland as a way to visualise your ancestral connection to Clan MacGregor or as a gift with personal meaning, this print of Glenstrae provides a beautiful immersive scene that transports you to the past.
