Photographer Aly Wight took this photograph of Huntly Castle in Aberdeenshire, the seat of the Gordon chiefs for over four hundred years. The Gordons received these lands from Robert the Bruce in the early 1300s as a reward for loyalty during Scotland's wars of independence. From Huntly, the family grew to control most of the north-east, and the Gordon chiefs became known as the "Cock o' the North," a title that tells you exactly how much power they held.
If you carry the Gordon name, Huntly is where that story starts. The seat of a clan powerful enough to earn a nickname that stuck for centuries.
