Photographer Aly Wight took this photograph of Craigmillar Castle, a dramatic ruin on the southern edge of Edinburgh that was one of Mary, Queen of Scots' most frequented retreats. Mary was a Stewart: the queen whose story ran through one of the most turbulent periods in Scottish history. She came to Craigmillar to recover, to rest, and to think, in the years when the political pressures on her were most intense. The castle gave her breathing room just beyond the city.
If you carry the Stewart name, Mary's story is part of yours, and Craigmillar is where she came to find quiet.
