What is the Clan Macpherson Connection to Cluny Castle?

Cluny Castle, located approximately five miles southwest of Newtonmore in Strathspey, was the historic seat of Clan Macpherson. The original castle was constructed in the 14th century, but it was destroyed by the Duke of Cumberland after the Jacobite uprising of 1745, which the Macphersons had supported.

The present-day Cluny Castle is a magnificent 19th-century mansion that was erected on the site of the original stronghold.

The castle's setting is idyllic, with the River Spey flowing past the estate's wooded grounds. The castle itself is a stunning example of Scottish baronial architecture, with turrets, towers, and battlements creating an imposing yet beautiful appearance.

If you're considering a landscape photograph of Scotland as a way to visualise your ancestral connection to Clan Macpherson or as a gift with personal meaning, this print of the Cluny Castle provides a beautiful immersive scene that transports you to the past.

Where is Cluny Castle?

Cluny Castle is in the Badenoch area of the Highlands region.
