Photographer Aly Wight captured this aerial view of Strathspey, the River Spey winding through autumn moorland below and Creag Dubh rising on the left. The scale of Badenoch, Macpherson territory for centuries, stretches to the distant hills.

That mountain gave the clan its war cry. Creag Dubh means Black Rock in Gaelic, and the name appears on the Macpherson battle standard as their rallying slogan. In 1309, Robert the Bruce granted the lands of Badenoch to the clan on a single condition, that they destroy his enemies, the Comyns. They did, and Strathspey became Macpherson heartland. Sixty years later, when Cameron raiders struck, the Macphersons met them at the junction of the Spey and Truim and drove them from the valley.

If your name is Macpherson, that mountain is your clan's war cry made visible.

Please note: The listed size (e.g., 16"x12") for Framed & Mounted prints refers to the glazed area, including the printed image and 2" wide mount. The frame, adding an extra 1" per side, isn't included in these dimensions. Therefore, the total product size will be larger than the dimensions given.
