What is the Clan MacLachlan Connection to Old & New Castle Lachlan?

This landscape photograph is more than just a beautiful image of Clan MacLachlan's lands on the banks of Loch Fyne. With the 15th-century Old Castle Lachlan on the left and the stunning New Castle Lachlan on the right (built in 1790), the image evokes a timeline of the enduring history of Clan MacLachlan.

The clan, claiming descent from Lachlan Mor, has a rich history dating back to the 13th century, and their ownership of lands was first documented in 1292. The MacLachlans played an active role in Scotland's battles for independence, and the two castles stand just a ten-minute walk away from one another.

In 1745, following the Jacobite defeat at the Battle of Culloden, a Government ship shelled Castle Lachlan, forcing the chief's family to abandon their residence. The construction of New Castle Lachlan marked a new chapter, but the old castle's ruins still stand, echoing the clan's rich past.

If you're considering a landscape photograph of Scotland as a gift or a way to visualise your ancestral connection to Clan MacLachlan, this print of Old and New Castle Lachlan provides a beautiful and immersive view that transports you across their history.
