What is the Clan Farquharson Connection to Braemar Castle?

Situated in the breathtaking Cairngorms National Park, Braemar Castle stands as a beacon of Scottish history. Originally built in 1628 by John Erskine, the 2nd Earl of Mar, the castle was initially the property of Clan Erskine. Their support for the Jacobite Uprising led to their downfall, paving the way for the rise of Clan Farquharson in the region of Deeside.

The castle's early years were turbulent, marked by an attack during the first Jacobite uprising in 1689 by John Farquharson of Inverey, the "Black Colonel." The Earl of Mar's shift in allegiance to the Jacobite cause further entwined the castle's fate with the uprisings.

In 1732, ownership passed to the 10th Chief of Clan Farquharson, solidifying the castle's connection to the clan. Braemar Castle then became a hub of activity, hosting distinguished guests such as Queen Victoria and King Edward VII.

With its rich history, architectural beauty, and strategic location, Braemar Castle symbolises Clan Farquharson's heritage and influence in Scotland.

If you are considering a landscape photograph of Scotland that celebrates your connection to Clan Farquharson, this print of Braemar Castle provides a stunning view that takes in the glorious beauty of Braemar Castle's setting. Braemar Castle is an important symbol and central to the story of Clan Farquharson.
