Photographer Aly Wight took this photograph of Kilchurn Castle, the Campbell stronghold that once controlled the approaches to Loch Awe and the routes through Argyll. The castle was begun by Sir Colin Campbell of Glenorchy and extended by his successor Sir Duncan after Colin died in 1475. That Sir Duncan became so notorious for building and holding fortifications across the region that history remembered him as Black Duncan of the Seven Castles. The Campbells held Kilchurn for nearly three centuries, until they moved their main seat to Taymouth in 1740.

If you carry the Campbell name, Kilchurn is where one chapter of your clan's long reach into the Highlands first took shape.
