What is the Clan Wallace Connection to Sundrum Castle?

Sundrum Castle, located north of Coylton in South Ayrshire, is a fascinating site with deep ties to Clan Wallace. Built in the late 14th century for Sir Duncan Wallace, Sheriff of Ayr, the castle was a rectangular tower constructed on land gifted by King David II. Sir Duncan was a relative of the legendary William Wallace, making this castle a significant part of the Wallace family history.

The Wallaces were known for their resistance against English rule, especially during the Scottish Wars of Independence. Sundrum Castle served as a fortified base for the clan, a place where official business was conducted in the great hall.

The castle later passed to the Cathcart family through marriage, but its Wallace roots remained a point of interest.

If you're considering a landscape photograph of Scotland as a way to visualise your ancestral connection to Clan Wallace or as a gift with personal meaning, this print of Sundrum Castle provides a beautiful immersive scene that transports you to the past.
