Clan Robertson Connection

Dunalastair, located in Perthshire, was the ancestral lands of Clan Robertson. The site, with its burial ground of the clan's chiefs, reflects the clan's history. An abandoned 19th century mansion, though a striking subject, was built after the Robertsons had left the lands, we show it here as it makes a beautiful focal point but it's the surrounding landscape that is deeply connected to the clan's heritage.

About the Photograph

This landscape photograph of Dunalastair was shot by professional photographer Aly Wight.

What is the Clan Robertson Connection to Dunalastair?

Dunalastair, nestled in Perthshire, Scotland, was the ancestral home of Clan Robertson, also known as Clan Duncan or Donnachaidh, until the 1850s. This clan, encompassing names such as Robertson, Duncan, and Reid, has a rich history deeply tied to this location.

The original tower house at Dunalastair was burnt down after the 1745 rebellion, and the baronial-style mansion, seen in our photograph, was built in 1862. Though the abandoned mansion itself is a striking subject for this landscape photography print, it's the land around it that holds the true connection to Clan Robertson.

The grounds of Dunalastair also hold the burial ground of the chiefs of the Clan, a solemn reminder of their legacy and influence. The landscape around Dunalastair continues to tell the story of Clan Robertson, making it an essential part of their heritage.

If you're considering a landscape photograph of Scotland as a way to visualise your ancestral connection to Clan Robertson or as a gift with personal meaning, this print of Dunalastair provides a beautiful immersive scene that transports you to the past.

Where is Dunalastair?

Dunalastair is in the Strath Tummel area of the Perth & Kinross region.
