What is the Clan MacDonald of Sleat Connection to Dunscaith Castle?

Dunscaith Castle, located on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, has a long and interesting history that is closely tied to the Clan MacDonald of Sleat. Originally, the castle belonged to this branch of the Clan Donald or MacDonald. However, in the 14th century, the castle was taken from them by the Clan MacLeod.

The MacLeods held the castle briefly before it was recaptured by the MacDonalds in the 15th century. Despite this, the castle's ownership continued to change hands over time. In the 15th century, the castle was captured by King James IV of Scotland, who had broken the Chief of the Clan Donald, Lord of the Isles.

Despite this setback, the MacDonalds were allowed to keep possession of the castle. However, they eventually abandoned it in the early 17th century, leading to its slow decline into ruin over time.
