What is the Clan Elliot Connection to Kelly Castle, Angus?

Although Clan Elliot is known as a border clan, it is widely accepted that their beginnings were further north, in Angus. It is believed that they moved to Teviotdale during the time of Robert the Bruce.
Kellie Castle, also known as Auchterlony, stands in Angus, adjacent to the Elliot Water.

Though documentation concerning the origins of the Eliotts was lost to a fire at Stobbs Castle, Kellie Castle was reportedly the seat of the Elliot family from the 14th to the 17th centuries, according to Canmore, Scotland’s Record of the Historic Environment.

The building itself appears to date from the late 15th century at the earliest and was restored in the mid-19th century after standing in ruins. The castle's enduring structure and its connection to the Elliot family reflect the clan's presence and influence in Angus.
