What is the Clan Bruce Connection to Clackmannan Tower?

Overlooking the town of Clackmannan in central Scotland, Clackmannan Tower stands as a mighty testament to the region's strategic importance. This impressive tower and castle, with roots dating back to the 14th century, is tied intrinsically to the illustrious Clan Bruce.

The lands where the tower stands were bestowed upon the Bruces in 1359, a reward for their role in rallying against the English in Kyle, Ayrshire. They held stewardship over these lands until 1796, throughout which time the tower saw various modifications, reflecting the changing tastes and needs of the times.

One of the castle's most notable residents, Henry Bruce of Clackmannan, distinguished himself by fighting for the Jacobites during the 1745 Rising. The legacy of the Bruces also intertwined with that of Robert Burns, Scotland's beloved poet, when Henry Bruce's widow famously knighted him in 1787 using the sword of Robert the Bruce.

Though the adjoining mansion was torn down, and the tower itself was abandoned, the monument continues to enthral visitors.

If you're considering a landscape photography print of Scotland that recognises your connection to Clan Bruce, this print of Clackmannan Tower offers a striking perspective of a site that's deeply tied to the Clan Bruce story.
