What is the Clan Adair Connection to Dunskey Castle?

Dunskey Castle, nestled along the rugged coastline of South-West Scotland, is steeped in history. While the origins of the castle date back to the 12th century, its connection to the Adair family has left an indelible mark on its legacy.

This connection began with Robert Fitzgerald, an Irish commoner exiled for breaching chivalric laws. On arrival in Scotland, he took the name Adair. Meanwhile King Edward I had set a bounty on a notorious pirate named Currie, who was the owner of then Portree Castle, now known as Dunskey Castle. Robert, seizing the opportunity, outwitted and defeated Currie, thus claiming the castle. This marked the beginning of the Adairs' deep ties with Dunskey Castle.

If you're considering a landscape photograph of Scotland to celebrate your connection to Clan Adair, this print of Dunskey Castle would make an excellent choice. Offering a captivating view, it immerses you in the rich history and natural beauty that is deeply associated with your ancestors.

Where is Dunskey Castle?
