What is the Clan Macnab Connection to Innes Bhuidhe?

Inchbuie, an island of the River Dochart near Killin, is a place of profound historical significance for Clan Macnab. The island, whose name in Scottish Gaelic, Innis Bhuidhe, means 'yellow island', is connected to both riverbanks by a bridge just below the Falls of Dochart. This landscape photography print captures the river Dochart rushing by the monument under the bridge that connects the island to the village of Killin, a sacred place for Clan Macnab.

The Macnab Clan, once dominant in this area, has long been associated with Killin. Their ancient burial ground, visible from the bridge, is a poignant reminder of the clan's deep roots and heritage. The walled enclosure features two 18th-century naive 'busts' on top of the walls, and the monuments within include a late medieval effigy of a warrior in the West Highland style, one of only two known examples outside Argyll and the Hebrides.

The connection between Clan Macnab and Inchbuie is not just historical but spiritual, as the island has served as a sacred burial ground for generations. The landscape, with the river's powerful flow and the island's serene beauty, reflects the clan's enduring presence and the legacy they left behind.

If you're considering a landscape photograph of Scotland as a way to visualise your ancestral connection to Clan Macnab or as a gift with personal meaning, this print of Inchbuie provides a beautiful immersive scene that transports you to the past.
