Photographer Aly Wight took this photograph of Cairnbulg Castle, the great tower house near Fraserburgh on the Aberdeenshire coast that has been part of the Fraser story for nearly seven centuries. The Frasers acquired it in 1375 through marriage to a co-heiress of the Earl of Ross, adding it to their growing estates in the northeast. They held it for almost three hundred years, sold it in 1666 when debts pressed, but never quite let go of the connection. In 1934, after Philorth House burned to the ground, the Fraser family bought Cairnbulg back and have lived there ever since. Three centuries of absence, and they came home.
If you carry the Fraser name, Cairnbulg is proof of what that kind of endurance looks like in stone.
